PENDING APPROVAL BY THE A&SCC
RATIONALE AND PROCEDURE FOR THE APPROVAL OF NEW COURSES
COLLEGE OF ARTS AND SCIENCES

The Arts and Sciences Curriculum Committee reviews new course proposals in order to oversee the curriculum of the College and guard against duplication, significant overlapping, specious offerings, and other problems, which would be detrimental to the integrity and excellence of the College's overall curriculum.  The substantive work of professionally criticizing and evaluating new course proposals takes place in the departments or programs from which they originate.  It is the responsibility of the Arts and Sciences Curriculum Committee to assure that this evaluative process is conducted well and to consider its results in the wider context of the College's curricular offerings.
