Fairfield University has a small, but vibrant German Department. Students at Fairfield have the opportunity to major or minor in German. Internships, which incorporate the use of German language skills, may be arranged. Of course, Fairfield University also has a study abroad program in the Baden-Württemberg section of Germany that is very popular with students studying German!
Outside of class, students can improve their language skills as well as knowledge of German culture via many activities geared specifically for German students. Peer tutoring is also available at no cost for students who need a little extra help.
Our German Club sponsors a monthly “Kaffeestunde”, a regular “Stammtisch” in the campus center snack bar, and frequent German movie nights (with snacks, of course!). The annual Oktoberfest in the Levee is also a time to to meet and mingle with students from Germany and American students who attend! There are also opportunities to make German meals, bake German cookies and a year end cook-out with bratwurst and all the traditional fixings!
