Social & emotional benefits
Many critics argue that the benefits provided by Head Start are gone by the third grade. Some proponents of the program have suggested continuing the Head Start model into the early elementary school years. They believe the benefits could be prolonged if elementary schools continued the efforts undertaken in preschool to engage parents, consider children’s health, and pay attention to their social-emotional learning as well as their academic learning.
