Wishes are usually introduced by the words ei)/qe or ei) ga/r.

The grammar of wishes follows that of the protasis ("if" part) of conditions:

wish for the future	ei)/qe/ei ga/r +  optative
wish contrary to present fact	ei)/qe/ei) ga/r +  imperfect indicative
wish contrary to past fact	ei)/qe/ei ga/r +  aorist indicative
