Write two separate essays on:
“The Public Image and the Practical
Reality of the Augustan Principate”
and:
“Continuities Between the Roman Republic
and the Augustan Principate”
Your essays should reflect your familiarity with class
discussion and materials, and should be illustrated with references to those
and similar materials (texts and images) where appropriate.1 You may organize your essays in whatever why
you feel best presents your ideas. You
may allocate space between the two topics however you wish, provided that you
write at least two pages on each topic.
The combined length of your exam (two essays) should be ten pages in
length, and must be no less that eight and no more than twelve, written in
Times Roman 12 pt. or equivalent type, with standard margins.
The exam is to be sent to me as a Word document
attached to an e-mail addressed to rosivach@mail.fairfield.edu.
It is your responsibility to see to it that the paper reaches me on time
and in the proper form. I will acknowledge receipt of all papers.
Be sure to keep a back-up of your paper in case something gets lost in
transmission.
Due date for the exam is 11:59 pm on December
15. Except for illness or other similar emergency there will be no
extensions. Your exam will be returned to you by e-mail as soon as it is
corrected.

Any
ideas or language that I have gotten from another source have been indicated
with appropriate bibliographical citations. Any ideas or language not so
indicated are my own.
Papers without this statement will be
returned as incomplete. Incomplete papers must be completed by the due
date to receive credit.
