John Miecznikowski represented our chapter at the Annual Sigma Xi National Meeting in Atlanta, GA fron November 10-13, 2016. John attended excellent presentations, presented a poster on his own research and also served as a judge for undergraduate and high school poster presentations on Saturday morning. Wednesday, November 16, 2016 - Jackie Vernarelli, Assistant Professor of Biology presented her faculty research. Her talk is entitled,"Eating in America: Using Big Data to understand dietary patterns and consumer behaviors in order to improve health." Click here for a full abstract.



Wednesday, February 1, 2017 - We are fortunate to feature a guest lecturer, Dr. Anita Sanz, of the University of Havana, Cuba. This talk was co-sponsored with the Department of Bology and Latin American Caribbean Studies. Tuesday, February 21, 2017- This year's Distinguished Lecture Seminar featuredDr. Herman Sintim, Drug Discovery Professor of Chemistry at Purdue University. Dr. Sintim's talk entitled, "Cyclic dinucleotide and quorum sensing revolutions could solve the antibiotic resistance problem," was presented for general audiences. Tuesday, March 7, 2017 - The Fairfield University Chapter of Sigma Xi and the Fairfield University Chapter of Phi Beta Kappa co-hostedLaura Holt, Ph.D. from Trinity College. Laura is an Associate Professor of Psychology at Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut. Her talk is entitled, "Predictors of Prescription Stimulant Diversion among Emerging Adults with ADHD." Thursday, April 20, 2017- The 17th Annual Student Poster Session was held in conjunction with the full day celebration of undergraduate participation in research and creative activities. The Sigma Xi session was held from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. in the Barone Campus Center Lobby and featured 71projects involving 120 students in scientific research. Our partnership with the Office of Academic Engagement continued for a seventh year. View event booklet. View the slideshow.


This years Sigma Xi Reception and Induction Ceremony was held on May 15, 2017 in the Alumni House Brennan Room. Twelve students were officially inducted into our chapter.
