Directions

Held in person at Fairfield University in Fairfield, Connecticut, which is centrally located for participants coming from the Northeast, the New York City metro area, and from upstate New York and Philadelphia. All events are held at the Dolan School of Business, which is the building pinned in the map below.

By Metro North

Fairfield is on the Metro North rail line (New Haven Branch). In New York City, the local stations are Grand Central Station at 42nd Street, or Harlem 125th street. In Fairfield, the local station is Fairfield Station (not Fairfield Metro!). Fairfield University is a 15-20 minute walk from the station. Tickets may be bought in the station from kiosks or, for a hefty surcharge, on the train. Fares differ whether the trip is peak or non-peak, but Saturdays are non-peak.

By Amtrak and other rail

Fairfield University is a 10 minute taxi ride from the Bridgeport Amtrak station. Bridgeport is a stop on the Northeast Corridor line between Washington, D.C. and Boston. Bridgeport can be reached by connecting from other lines (such as Empire Service in New York State or the Ethan Allen line in Vermont) via New York City or New Haven. The Shoreline East train connects Eastern Connecticut to New Haven. From New Haven, you can switch to the Metro North line and go to Fairfield station, a 30 minute trip.

By car

Fairfield University lies between I-95 and the Merritt Parkway (Route 15). Participants coming north from New York City or New Jersey should take I-95 North or the Merritt North. Participants coming from Boston or Providence should take I-95 South. Participants coming from western or central Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, or Albany area in New York will want to take either I-90 or I-84 to reach I-91 South to New Haven, and then connect to I-95 South.

By air

The nearest major airports are Laguardia (LGA) and JFK in New York City. From either airport, participants can take a GO shuttle to campus for about $75. Alternately, from JFK, you can take the subway to Grand Central Station and follow the directions above for Metro North. This is a cheaper, but longer (3-4 hours) option.

New Haven Tweed Airport has service from Avelo airlines, as well as limited service from American Airlines. From Tweed airport, take a taxi to New Haven Union Station (about 10 minutes, less than $20) and then take Metro North, as described above.

Lastly, Hartford Bradley Airport is about 45-60 minutes away from Fairfield. It is a calmer airport (like New Haven), but it is not well connected by public transportation. You would need to find a shuttle, such as the GO shuttle linked above.

Parking:

Participants who are driving to Fairfield's campus may park on campus, including in areas designated for faculty. Participants are asked to put a paper in their front windshield saying "MATH CONFERENCE" to identify their vehicles to the parking authorities.

Hotels:

We scheduled the conference for one day only so that participants do not need to spend money on a hotel. However, participants who do want to spend one or two nights in the area have several options.

The Circle Hotel and the Best Western are two hotels located near downtown Fairfield. Another option is the Hi-Ho Hotel, located at the Fairfield exit off the Merritt Parkway, in a more residential neighborhood. Additional hotels can be found up and down I-95.
