The primary way that foundation donors are identified for the University is two-fold. First, the Office of Foundation Relations regularly reviews the funding interests of private foundations across the United States assessing the connection between their funding priorities and strategic fundraising goals for Fairfield. Second, grant opportunity listings are regularly reviewed. Fairfield’s Advancement Division has an Office of Advancement Research that conducts comprehensive prospect identification for interested faculty once a project is submitted to Development through Foundation and Corporate Relations. Other sources where grant opportunities are identified include the following:
1. Chronicle of Philanthropy Grant Deadlines
2. The Foundation Center - The Foundation Center's mission is to support and improve philanthropy by promoting public understanding of the field and helping grant seekers succeed. Founded in 1956, the Center is the nation's leading authority on philanthropy and is dedicated to serving grant seekers; grant makers, researchers, policymakers, the media, and the general public. Most of its resources are provided free of charge through their Web site. Some services are paid for by Fairfield University’s Advancement Division.
Foundation Centers On-Line Directory - The Office of Foundation Relations has a paid subscription to the Platinum version of the Foundation Centers On-line directory. This directory provides access to 20,000 largest foundations and over 150,000 grants. Specific research on targeted foundations can be prepared for interested faculty. Searches can be conducted in a variety of ways. Contact the Office of Foundation Relations for further information.
3. Philanthropy News Digest – New RFP Postings
4. GrantStation - This organization offers a weekly newsletter that lists conferences and funding opportunities. The Office of Foundation Relations receives this and disseminates opportunities to the deans and the faculty.
5. Abe's Report - This is a daily newsletter that posts various funding opportunities. The Office of Foundation Relations has a paid subscription to this service and disseminates opportunities to the deans and the faculty.
