Stewardship/Monitoring
Foundation Funding
For most grants, reports are due on an annual basis. Many foundations
provide specific guidelines for reports, inclusive of forms
for budget expenditures. The Office of Foundation Relations
notifies the project director once a month prior to the report
deadline. On larger grants in excess of $75,000, six month
reports may be sent in the form of a short letter or e-mail.
The foundation staff appreciate this kind of contact and also
welcome a chance to visit the project in action when this is
appropriate. The project director and the Office of Foundation
Relations remain in contact to identify opportunities of this
kind during the life of the grant. Some foundations require
a specific gap of several years between grant awards. During
this cycle, annual stewardship reports are submitted to keep
the foundation apprised of the continued progress of the project
at Fairfield. This process ensures the continued development
of the relationship with the foundation and lays the groundwork
for the next proposal. In some instances, a team from the University
may visit a foundation and do the stewardship in a live format
with PowerPoint presentations and discussion.
