I Need Funding … What Next?

Congratulations! You have taken the first step to obtaining funding. At Fairfield University, there are three grant offices:

1) Corporate Grants: Director, Robert Cottle, x2927

The office of Corporate Relations deals with all corporations and corporate foundations. Some examples are SBC SNET, GE, People’s Bank, Fleet, Merck and Ernst & Young.

2) Foundations Grants: Director, Noel Appel, x2025

Private foundations include all funding opportunities specifically from private foundations such as the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Davis Educational Foundation, W.M. Keck Foundation, Bradley Foundation, etc. as well as from small family foundations and community foundations.

3) Government Grants: Director, Susan LaFrance, x2154

The Government Grants office covers three areas of funding: federal, state and local funding opportunities. Federal funding includes agencies such as the National Science Foundation, U.S. Department of Education, Department of State, NASA, etc. State funding can include: CT Department of Education, CT Department of Higher Education, the CT Commission of the Arts, etc. Local grants can be from sources such as Southwestern Council on Aging Agency, CT Distant Learning Consortium, etc.

I have an idea for a project and have no funding sources identified, whom do I contact?

At this point you can contact any one of the three grant officers listed above. Upon an initial discussion with one of the officers, it will be determined if you should pursue a foundation grant, corporate grant, or a government grant opportunity.

I have an idea and know of a funding source, whom do I contact?

If the funding is from a corporation or corporate foundation, contact the director of corporate grants.
If the funding is from a private foundation, contact the director of foundation grants.
If the funding source is federal, state or local, contact the director of government grants.
